The engine shakes badly but if i shift it to 3rd and accelerate hard to stops. In addition, the oil light comes on at 550 to 650 rpm. I think it's going out. But the engine stalling is a real problem esp since I am in TX heading to GA. Any thoughts? Thanks

Oh yeah, it is a convert with a v6 2.5 liter.

When was the last time you had this car serviced? The dealer, even a garage, plugs their computer in to your car to read all of the codes it's trying to give you.

Old cars are simple. They need fuel, air, electricity. New cars need the same thing, plus a computer geek to get the car to tell you what's wrong.

If the oil light is coming on at an idle you either have low oil, a bad oil pump, or a bad oil pressure sensor. I'd check the oil level first.

There's only about a hundred reasons why your car would stop running at 65MPH, none of them good, but the first thing that comes to mind is a dirty (VERY dirty) fuel filter. Second is a bad electric fuel pump. Third is a dirty (I'll go with filthy dirty) air filter, and one more for fun a bad computer module.

The engine shaking can be a misfire, bad engine mount, fouled spark plug (misfire) bad plug wires, burnt valve, mmmmmmm rings, a squirrel caught in the fan...

The easy way to find out some of the issues is to go to a place like Kragens, or one of those fast food kind of auto parts places and ask them to plug their computer into your car. It will read all of the codes your computer is spitting out and give you a list of problems. Then you can take your pick of what you want to do first.

I'd suggest a .308 round through the top of the engine!!

hay, try changing your fuel & oil, oil filter. you may also find that you have a fuel relay that has become intermittent, like the other answers you have recieved have a diagnostics run on your car, that will be your least expensive way to find the real problem. however defenalty change filters and motor oil. Good luck on your journey:)
