Would you rather be appreciated while you're alive or after your death?

It seems like the truly great individuals throughout history had to die in order for their greatness to be recognized...

And then there are those that were great at their time but faded out after death.

I would rather be appreciated while I'm alive so I can return the appreciation. I mean, when we die, does it really matter what those who remain think of us?

even thought i feel like deing.. alota times, im pretty sure i'll regret it if i died. and i'll never get and do the things iv always wanted to do. but once im dead, i won't be worring too much, guess i might as well let things go easyer, and move on for once... but i think ill be happer when im alive, since if i die, i have a feeling that im ganna have no hope at all... (if i die this year)

it makes me sad that in life and after my death the world wont know who I am or who I was. this includes everyone.
It wouldn't really matter to me if I was recognized through life or after death. It just gets to me that only my family will remember me. even so, after they are gone what will be my trace of existence other then a photo?
