I was thinking about having my kids read this book should I? They are in 8th garde, I teach at a Christian school but this was on the book list provided to me by my boss. Then today one of the studnets said she though about being witha girl in the book. Is it really all that and is it true? What do you think?

I agree with you; I read it in school during 7th grade but also don't remember any parts on sexual preferences. If it were true, trust me, lots of folks would have made a big deal out of it(after all it is the #2 book mostly read in the world besides the Bible--that's a fact I in many history books) but I have never read or heard anything about it my life so far. How did that student obtain the information. Was the source from his/her parents or another classmate or did the student read the book and can identify which part it was seen? It is very interesting indeed. BTW when I was that young, i also don't remember understanding that there were sexual preferences besides male-female but then everyone has been curious at a young age.

Stick with the regular edition that most stores sell, and you should have absolutely no problem! I believe it's only in the definitive edition, which came out a few years ago, that includes that stuff. I certainly never remember reading that in my edition--but then again, maybe I was just too bored by the book overall.

Originally, her father took that stuff out to make it more acceptable for publishing--so yes, she did write some bad things, not just hinting at being a "lesbian" (which isn't really bad at all) but you don't HAVE to read about it, so you can just pretend it never happened and go along your merry little way. :)

No Anne Frank doesn't think about being with a girl, I've read the book several times throughout my school career (I'm graduated now) and I can assure you there is nothing in there about that. :)

Why don't you read it yourself? I mean if your the teacher then why even bother having your students read something that you haven't read?
If you come across something like that then you can make your decision.
I personaly don't remember anything like that, but it's been well over 20 years since I read that book.

It is not true, she is infatuated with a boy in hiding with her family. The diary is a real diary not something concocted to amuse. Try reading it before burning it.

She does. I read it as a small kid, though. No big deal, especially for 8th graders.
