Although my Grandma died while I was still a young child -- I remember going with her (and my mother too -- and Grandma was a polish immigrant to America and could NOT read english) to the Driver's License Bureau to take her there to renew her Driver's License -- she took the Eye Exam, but when it came time to take the written exam (not being able to read at all), and no one there who could help translate (and my mother was NOT allowed in the room), they allowed little me -- a child to go into the room with my Grandmother and translate/read the information on the test to her. There were a couple of things that I could NOT translate (the one I remember the most is something I never heard either my parents or her refer in Polish to and that was the Cane that Blind people use ... and yes, that was on the test -- so I translated it as "Big White Stick"! -- hey, I was 6 at that time!) and Grandma did PASS the TEST!

I don't know if this is my favorite, but I think this says a lot about my grandma. One time when my grandma was talking to me on the phone she told me she thought I should take up dancing, specifically square dancing. She said that you meet quality people when you're square dancing.

When she used to go through my clothes to see if anything needed an extra stitching. And clean my shoes as soon as I took them off.
