It's going to depend on several things.
1. If they're young ,then maybe 1 hour or so. Have their friends come over so they get some kind of interaction with other people. If they're a little bit older, then give them a little bit more time. Also make sure that they go out and get some exercise or some playtime with other people. They need to learn to interact with other people or else they might end up being recluses.
2. Make sure that they do their chores, homework, etc. first before they got to play or let them play first but only if they do their homework, chores, etc. If they don't, then don't let them play the next day.
3. On the weekend, let them play a little bit more, but make sure that they go outside and get some exercises.
4. Make sure that they don't become addicted to the games. If all they think about is doing their homework as quickly as possible to play their video games, then you need to cut their time.

Well I figure if you have all of the video game systems then you do not really care how long they have on them. But for arguement sake I say let them on as long as they want...as long as they do everything you ask of them first. Some people are ment to play games. Some people get great jobs making games and such from playing them when they where young. If they are to grow up in a gaming company then you did good. But if you take games away or make it where its not worth playing anymore then you could be messing with what they might have become.

Want to know the truth? Since I was 6 years old, i've played video games nonstop, for about 8 hours or more everyday. I have a steady job at Microsoft developing games. But you never really know how a person will be just from playing video games.

Maybe avoid letting your children play video games at all for the time being. If you let them play at a very young age they might get addicted as they grow older.... Maybe 3 hours on Weekends would be good enough.

Only let them play for 2-3 hours and encourage other activities such as reading or music. Also, only let them play if they are finished with everything that is important (i.e. homework, cleaning room, chores, etc.)
Letting them play inappropriate games at a young age is a problem. So be aware of what your kids are playing.

To be honest it depends. First on age and then on the type of videogame. Some can be good while at the same time it isn't good to expose them to too much bad stuff for too long. I kno from experience that it can affect attitude and stuff like that.

just make sure to balance it with television. if you let the kids have three hours of tv a day or something, tv times should INCLUDE video game time.

As long as they want, but make them play with other kids so they dont lose the social interaction. Thats whatt ruin kids, the fact that they dont socialize, then they turn into geeks.

its best to let them decide on a weekly basis as games nowadays take time to enjoy.
An average of 10 hours a week, encourage them to do time management
