there are two and only two options you have, a virus scanner (norton, etc) or format n reinstall your os. product recovery doesnt get rid of viruses, the virus attaches itself to a .dll file in your registry and a registry cleaner wont get rid of it because reigstry cleaners get rid of unused files and viruses attach themselves to very important files. virus scanners break down your .dll files in the registry and carefully remove it from the host file without currupting the important . dll file. the other is backing up your wanted files (either burning or on to external HDD) then having your operating system installation cd on hand. insert your cd then reboot from cd n format your HDD then reinstall a fresh virus free new windows (assuming its windows). hope this helps

You don't need to wipe it, just put the setup CD in the drive and reboot

If you have the actual OS disks instead of Recovery Disks, put the disk in the drive, and select from the menu that pops-up to format and re-install Vista.

Use your recovery disc for the windows that is on your puter. It will walk you thru when you put disc in. You will lose anything you put on your puter since you got it and will have to reinstall software that you have put on. I have had to do this twice.
