"The beast" is the fear within the boys. Fear is primal and animalistic, and when the boys put aside the rules of society and allow their primal emotions to dominate their actions, evil is the result. The point of the book is that the beast is within all people.
This is why when Simon is "talking" with the pig's head on a stick, it says, "You knew, didn't you. I'm part of you. I'm the reason why it's no go"

Actually, another name for the devil, Beezelbub, when freely translated from hebrew, means lord of the flies. However, that's the pig's head, the beast is just the dead pilot, right?

All I remember is that you have relate it to THE BIBLE, I think something about the symbolic meanings of how the little teenagers find it as the "beast" where they weren't sure who it is.
