I ordered a very nice chef's knife set off of ebay for a friend for Christmas. It is still not here and the seller seems to have disappeared and will not answer me back. i have contacted eBay and am doing all i can on that end. But my problem is i have spent my Christmas money. All my gifts are bought and wrapped (except this one obviously) and i have no budget left, so i can't buy a replacement gift. At least not until the guy either sends my money back or sends the knives. So what do i do when it comes time for us to exchange gifts?

Use your sense of humor....
Cut out pictures of things your friend might be cutting if his gift had arrived....
or write a silly jingle that explains the situation without giving away the gory details and give him a plate of cookies while he waits.... a peanutbutter sandwich, i don't know whatever y ou have on hand... the idea is that getting together is the point.... just be sure to follow through and eventually give the gift....

Here's a start...
Twas the nite before Christmas
the UPS man,
Has gone on vacation to
get himself tan...

I couldn't have guessed when I ordered on line,
Your gift wouldn't make it to my house on time....

So I sit by my tree with no present to wrap,
Feeling a failure and drinking down Jack...

I'm frantic, I'm pacing, I'm searching my drawers...
certainly something that's mine could be yours...

I'd wrap up my slippers, my shirt or my books,
my toaster, my razor, a plant or some hooks?

I've run out of money, ideas and rhymes...
I've called just to check over 900 times...

They tell me its coming then say its been lost
I'll track down your present no matter the cost....

In the meantime my friend have a day filled with cheer...
Merry Christmas my friend and a Happy New Year!!!

PS... they really did lose your present
PSS... care to join me in a drink, until it gets here??
Happy Holidays!!

I'm in the same boat--- I spent $500 on jewelry for my two daughters for christmas from Bidz.com and they are a rip off company---The best thing you can do is what I am going to do, write a note in a beautiful card and explain to them what happened- and that you will be "replacing" the gift as soon as possible.

They are family and friends--- they will understand-- at least I hope so---I am sooo in trouble

Tell youre friend what happened and that you will try to get the gift just as soon as possible. Be sure and tell them that you are sorry that this happened.

If you still have not received it, pick up a nice card for your friend and sit down with her (or him) and explain exactly what happened. She (he) will appreciate your honesty in sharing what is obviously a bit of an embarrassing situation.

Did you pay through paypal? Going through ebay itself is necessary for feedback/fraud purposes, but ALWAYS pay through paypal, because you can get your money back immediately. Contact paypal if you did. They are a separate organization from ebay, and you have to notify them separately.

Just tell your friend what happened and let them know that you will make it up to them.
