I have to take either a benadryl or a sleeping pill to go to bed EVERY night. I think I may either become dependant on them or immune to them if this keeps up. I have tired to take a hot shower, but all tha does is just perk me up more. Help!!!

Registered Nurse here; Insomnia suffer, bless your heart. Well Benadryl is a excellent choice, however if it's not working, not much help. Tylenol PM, you can safely take 50 mg of benadryl at bedtime, no more than 50mg. Turning off TV and all other sources of stimuli's, also drinking a hot cup of tea with a little milk added. If none of this works, I strongly recommend you seeing your family physician, for there are many prescription medications on the market that are very safe to assist those of us that can't sleep. I'm one of them, note it's 12:00 midnight here, been to bed, woke up, husband asleep, and here I am on Yahoo. I truly believe people that don't have trouble sleeping in the 21st century just don't understand the situation. Hope the sand man comes to visit you every night so you can get some ZZZZZZZZZZ, if not please see a Doctor. DO NOT TAKE TYLENOL PM AND BENADRYL, ONE OR THE OTHER NOT BOTH.

Maybe if u drink tea, coffee, soda,or any other caffeine drink, or alot of sugar, it could be keeping u up. I say, try to drink non-caffinated drinks for a day or two and cut back on your sugar. thats all i can think of.
