My advice would be never to start back smoking. When I stopped smoking about twenty five years ago I was smoking 3 packs per-day. My Doctor told me not to come back to see him until I stopped smoking. I tried tapering off without success. I finally laid them down "cold turkey" and haven't smoked since. Cigarettes in essence will kill you. According to Readers Digest it takes about seven years for your lungs to recover to their original color which is pink. On autopsy from a heavy smoker the lungs look like Charcoal.

Just quit. Don't say... Oh, I'll stop after this pack. Or when this carton is empty. If you can't say that you are going to quit right now, you probably won't. If you really want to quit for yourself it's not that hard. Just keep reminding yourself why you want to quit everytime you get a craving. Chewing gum might help for something to do. Because that's when alot of people are most likely to smoke, when they have nothing else to do. Start cleaning, or read a book, or watch an interesting show on TV, ect. to keep the cravings at bay. And before you know it there won't be any cravings at all. You won't be a person trying to stop smoking. You'll be a person that doesn't smoke. Good luck.

The only thing that I can say is that if you don't REALLY want to quit, just don't try. I quit smoking 3 times in my life, the first for about 6 months, I did it to see if I could. The second, I quit for about a year because I got really sick and couldn't smoke for a few months. The third time was right after I met my wife. She didn't smoke, and it bothered her when I smoked around her, so I made a choice, I would rather be around her than smoke. That was almost 4 years ago.
No matter what, it isn't easy, and don't use those stupid patches. They keep you addicted to nicotine longer so you have to buy the patches instead of cigarettes. Try to replace your smoking habit with something more positive, I drank a small bottle of juice instead of having a cigarette.
I wish you the best of luck in quitting your disgusting habit.

I smoked when I was a teenager, when I was quitting I bought a package of ginsing cigarettes. Everytime I got a craving I'd light up a ginsing cigarette, it would make me naseous right away and my craving would be gone. Eventually I stopped getting cravings. I think that's called aversion training or contioning or something.
I still smoked occasionally if I was out drinking with people who were smoking. By occasionally I mean maybe 1/2 a cigarette a couple of times a year. Then a few years ago I was at a birthday party with lots of wine, then an afterparty with lots more wine, and when the guys lit up cigars I decided I wanted them to teach me to smoke a cigar. So they did. I've never been so sick as I was the next day and I haven't touched tobacco in any form since.
The longer you go the easier it gets. Stay with it.

Well, basically, I quite cold turkey. I knew I was smoking mostly out of habit, and only because of the people I spent time with (the "smokers") at work. I hated the way I smelled, etc. I changed up my routine, and was amazed at all the extra time I had after that. No more running outside in the freezing cold weather to take 5 puffs of a cigarette anymore... and saving so much money now!!! It's way too expensive to smoke anymore.. You might as well just throw them away... Chew gum, and find a new hobby. That helps too

i smoked over a pack a day for 9 years. when i quit for the first three days i would hold unlite cigs in my hand and even take fake drags. when i watched sports i would chew sunflower seeds. i had a possitive support team and a negative support. i didnt tell these people that i was useing them. but i told friends i was quiteing i waited for there reactions if they said i couldnt do it i wanted to prove them wrong. if they said i could i wanted to lean on them for support. the craveing get bad but no worse then when your on a plaine and want one tell yourself all the moments when you want a smoke but cant because of where you are. your getting out of the way all at once. if you really come to belive that you can quite. never ever allow one not even one drag. sorry about the horribe wording and bad grammer but im tired....good luck its the best thing i ever did

On the day I quit, I kept one closed pack of cigarettes in my bag.
If I broke weak, I would know that I have this pack to fall back on.
I never used the pack and ended up giving them away 6 months later.
