I'm 35 weeks along and I know i have to get on birth control after the baby but I feel very insecure. I had a horrible experience with Depo and I'm afraid to try birth control again.

I just had the Merena IUD placed in about two months ago. My OB recommended it, since I am not that good with pills and stuff. I had heard a lot of bad things about IUD's, but I did my own research and spoke to the Dr. a lot. I am very happy with my choice. I can't tell you that the "ring", "patch", "pill", or "IUD" is the best choice for you. You just have to do a lot of research and find out what is right for you.
p.s. I had a very bad experience with the Depo too.

Good Luck, and talk about it with your OB

I had an IUD for years. I loved mine! I had my IUD for 10+ years and then changed it for the new IUD that is called mirena. (it's good for 5 yrs) I was so glad with my choice. With the help of the IUD I was able to plan all three of my children. I am now 31 weeks and will plan to tie my tubes after this baby but I can not rave enough about the IUD I had in the past. The old IUD did not slow down your period like the mirena. For some women they slow down enough to where they only have their period for a few days. I am a heavy bleeder and this slowed me down ALLOT. It was nice to have for the year I had it. Here is the web site for all the details: http://www.mirena-us.com/index.jsp
Get informed. I should be a spokes person for the IUD. I know not everyone may agree, but I can deal with the 99.9% effective rate, never having to worry about taking a pill everyday, a condom tearing or coming off, or well you get the picture. It was easy! It took the Dr maybe 5 min to put it in and you are protected from the time it's in. It takes about 20 seconds for the Dr to remove it. As soon as it is removed please keep in mind you can now get pregnant! Talk with your Dr. Oh and FYI the old IUD I had is still on the market it does not release hormones. This one just prevents pregnancy and it's good for 10 years. (You never have to take it out till you need another one or you want a baby.) Good luck on your search.

After being on Nuvaring I felt like I had to pee all the time. Also I think I am getting more colds now and I read that colds are side effects.

It works well though. Just more chemicals than the Mirena IUD which is what I will be getting next month. I don't like the colds I have gotten even though I have no proof they're related.

Well if you get migranes, they worsen with the ring, sex is uncomfortable and damn near impossible unless you have a very long canal Id say. If you dont get it in place just right and I mean JUST RIGHT it is uncomfortable. I think sex was the biggest factor. You are supposed to be able to have sex with it in but I dont see how. BLAH! Depo made me gain weight so I feel your pain. Try ortho low maybe?I have a lot of friends who use the patch but you have to be in the right weight range to be able to use it.

The ring is great. I have had no side effects and i can't feel it inside of me. My boyfriend can't feel it inside of me when we have sex, either. I didn't get breakthrough bleeding with it as I did when I was on the pill, either. The best part is not having to remember to take the pill every day and not worrying about getting nauseous if you forgot to take the pill without food.
