I have no idea. It's insane. They are just people who get paid an insane amount of money. Kind of like sport figures. They aren't special. Just more people know who they are but they don't really "know" them. They know the roles/characters they've played. That's about it.

I think it's because we've become a society bored with ourselves, and you have to admit it...there's nothing bitter American's love more than to make someone a celebrity, put 'em up on a pedestal, and kick it out from under them and gleefully watch them fall. Current examples: Britney, Whitney, Jacko...if we spent half the time supporting "fallen stars" instead of enjoying their crashes what a prettier world we could all live in.

I don't necessarily think they are put on a pedestal.
Most of the adoration comes from the fact that a lot of celebs are of course very good looking - we all like to look at good looking people.
Then people fall in love with the characters some of them play in movies and the interest come from there.
Let's face it - who doesn't dream of a jet setting lifestyle with plenty of money. What people don't understand is that the grass aint always greener .........

Not me. Who could take the Paris's and Lindsey's serious? They are fun to talk about though but not in the "put on a pedestel" fashion.

Some people do that. I don't understand it. Just because they're famous doesn't mean sh*t. In my opinion, they're kinda stupid, just seeking celebrity. They get behind worthy causes and think that it makes them more than what they are.......actors. It's just B.S.
