Try a mixture of both.
Develop your skills in PDM/ PLM, this would help you to be in the Mechanical/ Automotive/ Aeronautical industry but would completely be the software side of the industry.

Other wise you can also look at CAD related courses like Catia, ProE. Huge market out there for these also.

Companies like infosys, TCS, Satyam, Geometric, Infotech, Applied materials, IBM, GM, SAP are all in these domain

You got to make a clear cut goal before making a decision to choose between software or mechanical

The first thing that you can do is to imagine yourself in coming 5 years
See whether you want to have a very fast and steady career growth?..........If yes then go for Software........this is a place where your talents, communication skills etc... comes to play.........and due to which your life will be prosperous

You can also have a very good career growth in mechanical field..........But you have to first check out the growth rate

The rate at which your career grows is more in software than in core field

The faster the growth rate the more salary increment........

I am not trying to praise software.......you can interpret your ideas regarding both and then take a wise decision

Whatever decision you make...........you have to stick to that decision forever

All the best!!
