Three elements must be present to form a common law marriage in Texas.
First, you must have "agreed to be married."
Second, you must have "held yourselves out" as husband and wife. You must have represented to others that you were married to each other. As an example of this, you may have introduced you partner socially as "my husband," or you may have filed a joint income tax return.
Third, you must have lived together in this state as husband and wife.

There is no 'time limit' on the relationship.

California does not recognize 'common law marriage' in the state, so unless you have come into CA from another state as common law, you can live together for 100 years and not be married.

Do you mean common law marriage?

California doesn't have common law marriage. Texas does (calls it "informal marriage"), but doesn't specify how long you have to live together. You do have to agree to be married, and present yourselves to others as married.
