You poor thing this is a rough stage, you're tired and worried and probably a little scared. Sometimes the stripping works and sometimes it doesn't. A couple of days will usually tell. My advise is walk, walk, walk that will more than likely help the process. The power of gravity does amazing things at this point, it will also help to get everything in shape for labor. If you're unsure go to the hospital to do it, tell them what you are doing and get to walking. They normally don't mind this, and if you are lucky and your water breaks or good labor starts, you're already there.
Good luck hon, and God Bless

If your body is ready to go into labor it can help, but it doesn't always help. I had mine swept at least twice during my first pregnancy and both times it did nothing. The average length for human gestation is 41weeks and 1 day so hang in there!
Here is some more info:
"Sweeping of membranes at 39 weeks of gestation has no significant clinical effect on the duration of pregnancy."
and
"Membrane sweeping at 41 weeks can substantially reduce the proportion of women with post-term pregnancy."
So it looks like the effectiveness depends on how far along you are.

Stripping the membranes CAN get things started, but it doesn't always work. In fact, most of the time it doesn't. My OB scraped mine 3 times with my first (I ended up being induced 2 weeks late) and twice with my second (was one day late, labored on my own). I say if you wanna have this baby...have lots of sex (the semen contains labor inducing hormones) and do a little walking, as your energy will tolerate. I know you are tired of this phrase, but, really, the kid won't stay in there forever. :-) Good luck momma, it'll be over soon hon.

Hving your membranes scrapped or stripped only works about 50% of the time, so just know that if nothing happens by tommorow afternoon call your OB back

You can call the doc. to make sure but, I had mine "scrapped" like two weeks before....and I ended up still getting induced. I also had them scrapped with our first child (what is it at 36 weeks?) and he was induced at 42+ weeks. With both of our children.....I never experienced labor pains.......that I noticed anyway!!! Or any bleeding with my first child, with my second.....all throughout my pregnancy! Good Luck!!

It works for some and not for others, it didn't work for me. It is just something the doc can try. I was induced a couple days after that didn't work.
