In Pokemon Red and Blue, there is a sequence of events you can do and the last step involves Missgno. First you go to the Forest (Veridian Forest?) and where the old man shows you how to catch Pokemon, (its a weedler and its boring but watch it anyway), then FLY to the Island in the southwest corner of the world (it has a city on it), then walk directly right till you reach the nearby shore, then use the SWIM and hug the shore moving up and down.

Pokemon will start fighting you and they will be very high levels. Missigno, as earlier described, looks like a weird jumble of buildings. DO NOT CATCH HIM! It screws up the game. However, you can easily kill it, and it won't screw up the game, but instead allow you to exploit a handy glitch.

Doing this replicates whichever item you have in the sixth item slot by x100 or around there. This works only with an item with a numerical amount, like potions or pokeballs. But it would have no effect on the Silph scope for example.

The best items to replicate is the Master Ball and Rare Candy, the best items in the game.

So in a word, Missigno is a game glitch that can be quite handy, and is not a real pokemon

Not very much.

All I know is that it comes in from some glitch related with the safari zone during pokemon red blue and yellow. I don't think it a legal pokemon, so I won't try to catch it.

There is rumors that there is a missingno in the advance generation in a form of a bad egg. I think it is formed when players using a gameshark to try to create new pokemon.

But I have no clue if that's true.

Missingno was a glitch in the Pokemon games. Catching it can mess up the game, but it is necessary to fight it in order to duplicate items.
