Ok, so my friend is having surgery in the morning, and tonight we had a Christmas party, at which she ate a small piece of whiskey pie. Ok, so the pie has 3 tablespoons of whiskey in it and the alcohol isn't cooked out, and she ate it around 7:45. Is that going to cause any problems? I figure it's not a big deal but I just thought I'd check.

She should be fine. Usually with surgery they tell you not to eat anything after midnight. That small amount of alcohol would burn out of her system long before midnight, especially if she was eating/drinking other things. She should be fine, but if she has any doubts or questions she should tell her doctor or one of the admitting nurses.

I wouldn't be worrying as much about the alcohol content but more about what kind of surgery and if she isn't suppose to be eating anything. Will she potentially vomit? I would ask the doctor and the anesthesiologist.

What were the instructions? Don't worry about the alcohol, she'll be fine. Just don't eat past the time that was recommended by the doctor.
