I bought 2 dwarf hamsters a month ago, and they lived together without any problems. The male was slightly larger than the female at that time. They lived in the same house, even slept side by side inside their house w/o problems.I saw them last week w/ the male trying to hump the female but not really sure if they have mated since she squeals with protest each time he does that..Now the female is almost his size, and has now become more aggressive to the male! She keeps on scratching him when they bump into each other and he just freezes and she stops (no biting though) like he lets her go her way. She's hoarded lots of seeds and pellets in their house, and doesnt even want the male hamster to come into their house!Even when she's eating on the food dish the male cant even come close as she gets agitated! Could she be pregnant? I dont see any obvious bulges or anything. What should I do?

Get the baby shower together, because your dwarf is having babies.

I had two dwarf hamsters (thought they were male) and the same thing happened. She got aggressive, but not sure why that was. She did hoard food in preparation, and close to the birth she made a big bundle to hide under for the babies. It is near impossible to detect they are pregnant, only the second time around did I know what to look out for. Yes, she gets bigger.

Pregnancy only lasts maybe 3 weeks. You should have the father out of the cage soon though- it can get ugly. Dwarf hamster males are known to be "jealous" and eat the babies to win back the mother. Fighting can occur as it did with the father and the babies, too.

Goodluck!

If I were you, I would be a responsible owner & seperate them, she is pregnant! You can not tell when they are until they are ready! The male will get her pregos as soon as she has the babies, you will have so many you will not know what to do with them!! SERIOSLY, seperate them ASAP! Keep 1 of the female babies when they are 3weeks old for a companion & get rid of the rest, DO NOT INBREED, it gives the little guys a bad rap!

Most likely two things have happened - a) they've matured from non-dominant babies/adolescents into a more adult phase, and b) she may be pregnant.

Easy solution? Get another cage, seperate them, and your problem is solved.

By the way - this is why it is usually suggested that same sex pairs be kept together to prevent this sort of thing... That and the whole pesky jelly-bean sized baby thing.

Because she's gotten smarter and realizes what a fat lazy SOB he really is. Try taking the sofa out so he can't lay around all day and do nothing. Then get that mini six pack out of the fridge and check his little wallet for other girl hamsters numbers. He's not going to change. It's time to get a new one.

It sounds like she's pregnant for sure. I have two dwarf female and they never fight. Had them about a year now. You might have to seperate them tho. They will eat their own young.

nicely what i think of is they are not aggressive in any respect, they're purely slightly scared and that i additionally think of you ought to no longer positioned the two men mutually, because of the fact this might ensue and that they'll combat.
