Whenver I get online, I'm glued to the screen for many hours. :And i have homework to do! My computer is just on my lect where I do my homework.... All I need to do is press the on button and turn on the monitor and good bye to concentration! My grades are slipping so fast because I end up having to do my homework in the morning. Do any of you have any ideas on what to do?

I have to admit I am addicted to the internet. Not Myspace because I do not have one and I am not the kind of person who likes to read long articles *resaerch homework are the worst.*

I sometimes start working on a piece of paper but then.. I might take a few minutes break. I play MMORPG's (Massive Multi Online Role Playing Game) Which 1 hour of game time is nothing compare to 1 hour of paper typing. Speaking of which I have paper soon and its 12:00am and I do not feel like typing...

The best thing I found for myself is make a list of everything you have to type. Make the list long so you feel bad and at least get one thing done. Once you get one thing done you can take your break. To prevent time from passing to fast..

Move the clock so it is infront of your face or somewhere you can see it while looking at the computer screen. Computer clocks are small and can be ignored. Time will keep naggin you untill you try again.

If you have long papers to do then do the reward method. Start by breaking your paper up into sections. How big and how small the sections depends on how long you have and how patient you are. It can be as simple as one paragraph or a whole page.

Once you finish it reward yourself with some internet activity time. 20-30minutes should do because any shorter your brain will think it was not enough time maybe a bit longer...

Then you work on the next part. Keep rotating and remember it might take longer to type then to spend free time but if you can get your mind to think of it as a reward not only will you be able to get alot of things done. You can also enjoy yourself online.

Quiet works to if you are in real desprate like me having finals and assignmetns due I go to the library. Because I have to type I can not avoid the computers... I take my laptop and move it somewhere quiet. A big open desk really works if you need to put papers somewhere. I also have Wifi built into my laptop but they have firewalls on wireless so I can not play my games. I do check my email but being alone and nice and quiet you can concentrate more. it is hard especially if you see people having fun and your not. I sit in a corner and stare at the wall if I have to.

I have the same problem and it's a matter of self-discipline. Here's an idea on what to do that I just came up with:
1) Create a new user account. Name it something like "homework2do"
2) When you have some work to do, log into that account. Your favorites won't be on that account so you might not be as easily distracted.
3) You might also need to look into netnanny-type software to help you with monitoring your own internet usage.

One thing I do is make sure that I set some time aside for myself on the net. Like right now I'm addicted to Yahoo answers. So, I make sure that I complete at least one hour's worth of work before rewarding myself with an hour's worth of "surfing" the net.

Trust me, you aren't the only one who's addicted to the net and I've no doubt that very soon there will be widely distributed support groups for the internet-addicted.

"Hi, my name's Chris and I'm addicted to the net."
"HI CHRIS!!!"

Well, firstly, I am an internet addict myself (I should be studying for exams tommorow, and I'm on here answering questions (inner chant: Must get to level 7...must get to level 7....))

If it is really getting in the way, unplug that ethernet cable, or wireless card, or phone cord. Get yourself to a secluded room and get to work. I know, it might seem hard at first, but if you set up a schedule of time for work and time for play, you will be most successful.
