In American government we were assigned by the teacher to write a letter to someone in office (the president, senators, congress, etc). We are to tell them of a political concern and how we propose to remedy it. Ex) I think that law XYZ is flawed, and I think that we should do ABC.
Anyone want to help me out with ideas? It would be appreciated.
Preferably nothing about the war in Iraq.
And thanks.

One of my biggest political concerns right now is immigration. Specifically, the bill in congress & the talk to give amensty to over 11 to 12 million illegal immigrants. Not only will it flood the schools, welfare, unemployment, social security but it is patently unfair to skip over the immigrates who have legally applied, wanted for years to become citizens.
That number of spanish speaking "new citizens" would make it neccessary to hire translators at almost every business. The rights they demand now would be required then. They could bring their families over increasing the total numbers of "new citizens".
There is a reason that we have had a maximum number of new immigrates every year since 1891 when the INS was formed. In 1990 the number allowed in was increased to 700,000. The 11 to 12 million is 15 times what the studies by INS has shown the US can absorb without serious consequences. I think it would do great harm to the US economy & social balance( by allowing a second language to be required).
They can come in & stay but legally & in smaller numbers each year like every new citizen has since 1891. The Hill needs to study & vote not look for new voters.

I have three of them. I may not have the exact facts. I think that should be your job to find out. But, these questions interest me.
Good luck on your paper!
Why has the "fair tax" not been further looked at?
Why do the "servants" of the people in the house and senate not have to invest in social security and allowed to privately invest their retirement?
Why was the privatization of social security not looked at? When it was 4% of what a person paid in, the person could not touch the money, and there is an average of 1.5% return with social security yet private investing of that money would bring more than twice the return on that money?

Is the nothing about Iraq your request or your teachers?
There are so many issues to write about anyway.
Global warming, farmers issues, trade balance, poverty, social services, immigration, homeless people, third world issues, Americas foreign policies and the impact of these on other countries. Drug trade, police, Military , Education and fair taxation.
Pick one and you can be guarenteed Bush and his daddies sycophants have f"+_)( it up.
Perhaps you should write a letter asking why the Senator or Secrtetary of which ever subject you choose believes they are fit to hold the job they have and what they did to get there ie Corruption, photoes, lies , graft , blckmail, theft, voterigging, GB snr payola and returned favours( like Condellezza) or are they there simply out of affirmitive action are are actually tokens ( lkike Condellezza) when they have obviously been so grossly incompetant and unfit to manage their granted portfolios.

Health care costs: part of solution is to set a limit to how much a plaintiff and their lawyer can be awarded in a malpractice suit. this could lower the cost of malpractice insurance and, in turn, help to lower the fees that doctors must charge their patients.
Another role that the government could take in reducing health care costs is to do more in subsidizing the education of medical students. It's not uncommon for doctors to graduate with$200,000 in debt due to student loans.
These are only a couple of suggestions, but I think that a key strategy to take in reducing health care costs is to free physicians from the burden of debt and fees with which they are saddled. Remember: Poop rolls downhill.

Tell them how we need to protect the U.S. industrial might and bring back the tariff's we had before the 80s. Today we let S. Korea sell KIA and Hyundai`s here but their country won`t let us sell cars there and in China if they want to sell a car in the U.S. they pay a 2% tariff but if we want to sell cars there we pay 20%. China and most other industrialized countries protect their economy why can`t the U.S.?
