of unborn baby human beings? For those of you who are unfamiliar with the story "Charlotte's Web", the premise is that a runt piglet (Wilbur) is saved by the farmer's daughter from being "done away with" because he is a runt. But, he is still going to be slaughtered later when he gets big enough. A spider named Charlotte tries to save Wilbur by weaving webs with different messages to make people take notice of the pig and think that he's special. The first message she weaves says "Some Pig". It's a very touching movie and quite a tear-jerker with most people, I think.
So, again, my question is as above. Would a sign with the message "Some Baby" make anyone think twice about abortion? If not, why does a fictional pig illicit sympathy, yet an unborn human being does not?

jonmcn49: I agree, abortion is a terrible way to practice birth control; however, if life doesn't begin at conception as you say, then what's so bad about abortion? I mean, if it's nothing more than having a leach removed from your skin, then why shouldn't every woman do it? Isn't it promoted as safer than childbirth? Isn't it promoted as one of the safest things women can do and that a fetus at any age is just an object, of course until it takes a breath, and THEN it is one of the most precious and helpless people in our society, right? Can you rectify that for me?

I don't believe a sign like that would affect someone looking to get an abortion. I do believe if everyone who was seeking an abortion had an ultrasound at least a week before an abortion there would probably be fewer abortions.

Well, for one, the pig has been born. I really do not like to get into this issue, but I am a scientist, so I know that the " point of conception " argument is false. On the other hand , abortion is a terrible way to practice birth control. So, I know that people against abortion are arguing from some sort of morality, while the other side argues from some sort of equality. I see no solution any time soon to this great disagreement.
Pajama-mama, I can not rectify this for anyone. That is why I usually leave the debate to woman. A dispassionate discussion is almost impossible in this area.

The reason the web with "Some pig" written in it works in the story is because of the surrounding story. The sign is an interesting idea, but without the story surrounding it, I doubt people would make the connection. You are probably a much deeper thinker than the majority of people. I was drawn to your question because the image puzzled me. Perhaps if a photo of an embro or fetus were below the web it would work.

It depends.
All people are raised within different value systems.
What seems wrong to one person may seem right to another.
Some people feel sympathy towards issues like abortion, others see nothing wrong with it.
A sign with a particular message would most likely not cause an individual to have second thoughts about something they have already formed strong opinions about.
You can't change how another person feels towards something. You can try but there are no guarantees, especially on a subject as touchy as the extermination of an unborn baby.

No, I dont' think that it would make a bit of difference. Someone that would make the difficult decision to have an abortion can't have made that decision lightly and something like that wouldn't likely make much difference. Then again there are the shallower types that are more worried about spoiling their figures that might be phased by it, but then, if they're that shallow I seriously doubt they'd get the refernce.

I don't think any kind of sign is going to change the way anybody feels about abortion whether they are for it or against it or pro choice. Yes Charlotte's Web is a sweet movie but people are not as sweet as cute lil piggy's.

If you do or don't want an abortion just keep your big fat flapping yap shut. Every body gets on this kick and our troops are dieing in an unauthorized war. Why don't you do something about this? You are sidetracked just likes the government of America wants you to be, so you don't see whats really going on in the world.

It works for the pig because we are just that much of a commercialized nation. I don't think it would work for what you're asking.
I once got national recognition (about 20 years ago) for carrying a sign in a demonstration that said simply "thanks mom"
try that!!
