Most all kids, especially boys, love Legos. When you go into the Lego section you will see that the suitable ages are printed on the packages. You can get mega blocks for the little guys, 2 & 3, regular Lego sets for the 4 to 6's and then the little legos and the builder sets for the older kids.

Bratz dolls are really popular for little girls probably 4 to 8.

Preschoolers love play dough. You can lots of little cans so everyone can get one or two.

Puzzles are a great idea. The wooden puzzles with the big pieces are perfect for the toddlers. 24 piece puzzles are good for preschoolers and then 100 pieces for the school age children.

Candy Land, Memory, Chutes and Ladders, Guess Who, Concentration are great games for kids around 5 and 6.

The scene it games are fun for the school age children.

Preschoolers also love tinker toys, lincoln logs, markers, stickers, and matchbox cars & hotwheels.

School age boys will like the wrestling ring and wrestling figures.

Toddler/Preschool girls love Doras Talking Kitchen and anything princess.

Books. Boardbooks for the little guys. 3s and 4s will like books that deal with the things they know such as Blue Clues Books, Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, etc.

4s & 5s & 6s love I Spy books. The books that make sounds when you push the buttons are also popular.

2 to 6 also think about the toy dinosaurs and animals.

Hope you find a lot of great stuff. I am sure it will be a very rewarding trip. Good luck! SD

Stuffed animals are appropriate for almost any age. For the younger set, baby dolls, barbie dolls, princess dolls and Dora dolls are really popular. Tickle me Elmo, or other toys that talk.
CD player for older kids.
When you go shopping, look for something for a really sick kid, who might lack the energy to really play with something, so something that moves or talks might work. Something they can cuddle and love would work. Something to keep them quiet and entertained for long periods would work, like the CD player.
Older boys are more of a problem, a jersey of the local sports team, or an autographed ball might be great.

I'd go for books first, then art supplies (markers, colored pencils, paper, etc.), stuffed animals for the really wee ones. Puzzles, leggoes (or something like them--I know they're pricey). I've never met a kid who didn't like to draw and color!! Arts and craft type things (beads, wood, sewing crafts).
