Ok, so I want to learn to play the bass guitar.

But, I know my mum is gonna say no. I've played the flute, guitar, and piano in the past, and stopped all of them after about 2-4 years. She's just gonna say that I'm not gonna stick with it, and say no.

But I'm really serious about this. I played the piano and guitar long ago, before I liked any REAL music, like rock. And the flute....psht, you can't exactly play good rock music on that, unless it's Irish Punk Rock.

So, how do I ask her? How can I make her understand me?

Offer to pay for the Guitar and lessons youself by doing extra chores or taking on more responsibilities around the house. Or actually pay for them by doing odd jobs, baby sitting, whatever.

Beleive me. She'll take you seriously.

ask yourself why do you think she''ll say no. Is it a $ issue -- emphasize you want to pay for it. It's always good to come to a parent with a well thought out request -- it shows you have given it serious thought and it's not just a whim. Personally, I think the fact that you've played 3 different instruments for 2-4 yrs shows you have musical talent. I think it would be a reason to LET you take up the bass guitar. Music enriches the mind -- you can find some article about that on the net! Anyways, good luck from a mom!

Ian Anderson was a master Flutist and he had the band Jethro Tull. He made it to the top of the lists a couple times and still sells albums today. So you see the flute can work in rock. But I did the same thing. Baritone, Trumpet, Symphony Percusion, Trap Set, Marching Band, and learned the guitar on my own. I found that my calling was in sound engineering and reproduction. I believe a child should never be held back in anything they want to try. That is how we learn what we want and like in life. "PEACE"

Hi!
Pick your time to approach her, make sure she isn't tired or just got home from work or wherever, or in the midst of something.
Then, just go to her and say, that you are older now... and you know more about what you want. And now it's to learn bass guitar. And that your musical instrument background will be an asset to you in this venture. And that you would like her support in doing this. Also, you posted that this will be at no cost to her, she really shouldn't have any objections then.
Good Luck! )

Well Ive heard that if you know how to play guitar learning to play bass is really easy. They say its just like the guitar except with four strings instead of six. I wouldnt know though because im just learning guitar, but I hope to be a bassist. Instead of buying a bass rent one for a while and see how you like it then decide if your gonna stick with it. But good luck with convincing your mom

Make it up. Write on the subject of how you think of you're a demanding worker and how a step up may well be large for you and the job, becuse a greater stable worker would be at a greater significant postion. you already know in case you get promoted you won't be able to be waiting to sleep/answer/ask all day long anymore. plan 2? - Write some junk essay that may not get you the job, that way you may stay getting paid for slumbering and being on Y!A....

tell her you want to continue to grow and experience music and then ask her what she thinks about you wanting to experience music, then ask her what instrument she would likes, then ask her about the rhythm section of music and then bring up how bass guitar would help you learn more about musical rhythm that you can use in our other areas of music, she will think she came up with the idea.

you can try to convince your mom to say yes, tell her that your really serious about this.....but if she says no maybe you can ask a friend or something who does play and ask them to teach you...thats what i would do.
