If you are in the middle of a conversation and it all goes quiet, they will say something like. I went to the shop today, and it was cool. It is not really that interesting.

I love these sorts of generalizations. So how many Americans have you met? How many states have you been to? How many American cities? How much time have you spent in America?

You say you notice Americans start talking about themselves when the conversation goes quiet? Well, if you just stand there not saying anything, we Americans tend to feel awkward and will search for something, anything, to get the conversation going again.

Anyway, I had to reply to this because on general principle the first thing that comes out of my mouth when I greet someone is 'hey, how are you?' And I know a lot of other Americans that are the same way (I grew up in a very friendly area, its a quaint little town you may have heard of but clearly have never been to; San Francisco).

Oy, gevalt. Enough with the stereotyping. My gosh, man, there are self-centered people in every town, city, state, country, island and continent on this Earth! I don't see you asking how I'm doing.

I'm annoyed, thank you, by people who lump other people into groups according to their spirituality, government, race, gender, creed and whatever the idiotic media has to spew next. I am tired of people accepting these stereotypes like sheep. I can see now how easy it was for someone like Hitler to dominate. This mentality is absolutely the most frightening thing in the world today. You don't like someone? You can have your reasons for not liking them, but please don't judge everyone else from their example. Get to know each person individually before you make mass assumptions and incite hysteria. It troubles me to no end.

Anyway, thanks for asking. How are you doing today?

Were not that way on purpose, it just our minds run a million miles an hour. We jump from one topic to the next really fast. Have you ever sat back and listened to a group of us talk!! We care I promise. I blame 80's movies.

Most...not all are very arrogant people, every American I meet is exactly like this, all me me me, and if you try and talk they will just talk over the top of you.

Some Americans are really nice people but, sadly there is a majority toward arrogance which means all Americans get a bad name.

well, how are you?? I guess it's because our society is so self-centered that all we can think about is ourselves when we have nothing else to say.
