I want to buy a laptop, but there are so many out there that I don't know which one to buy. Can somebody give me some advise on which laptop is a good brand to buy?

The best advice that I can give is to search around and see what you personally want, as opposed to listening to reviews and the like.

A large part of owning anything is does it fit you? Well, just like clothing, you have to try it on, or at least pretend to try it on. I understand, sometimes, you can't look at a floor model of every laptop that is out there, but if that is the case, severe reasearch on the wonderful tool known as the internet, is an excellent resource.

As for brands that I think you should take a particular gander into, I suggest anything HP, that is if you want to buy a warranty. The reason I say this is because if anything at all happens to your laptop, they will repair it for absolutely no cost whatsoever. They even ship a box to you with neat little instructions and foam cutouts that fit your laptop. Other than that, if you want to start comparing it to other brands, a bit of the copy-cat syndrome happened in HP; their newest models include a built-in webcam, much like the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

Speaking of the MacBook and MacBook Pro, those are two wonderful laptops, but only if you want to shell out the bucks. Mac OS X is a wonderful system that not only is aesthetically pleasing, but is a breeze to use. Of course, all of this functionality comes with a price, as you'll be spending somewhere around $1500 or so if you want the lowest level MacBook with a good warranty. (And I will tell you that warranties are a must. Anything can happen in the realm of computers, and this is compounded when you start taking them outside.)

Try to try out a laptop before you buy one. Do you really like where the trackpad is? Could you live with that glossy screen? Is that screen too dark? Is that screen too bright? These are all things that pictures will never tell you.

Be sure to shop around at places like TigerDirect or Amazon.com before you start shelling out the manufacturer's price. Deal hunting is a must to get the most bang out of your buck.

As for what I own, I recieved a Compaq Presario V2000 as a gift. Of course, this can be a dangerous gift for the reasons that I outlined above, but I absolutely love it. I think that it is a good buy, though I would love to place a bit more RAM in it. (Speaking of which, make sure that you brush up on your computer lingo, and know what the standard is for the times. You don't want a computer that will be completely obsolete in a year.) It's currently getting fixed by that HP warranty that I spoke so highly of before, so I won't be able to use it for a while, but it is a nice laptop for a reasonable price.

So I guess, in conclusion, I never really answered your question, but I think this should give you a good starting point. I'm sure that as I'm typing, many have answered with specific brands that they prefer, but what is important is that you find what you prefer.

I've been selling Dell for years and I can tell you that there are several points Dell has over the competition Decent support if you pay for it good range of parts, if you need a keyboard after the warranty is up or something similar then dell has alot of goods from sellers on ebay They always give you a CD to reinstall your PC never a hard drive partition only The studio and XPS systems have a unique monitor hinge that really reduces wear and tear, the monitor hinge on laptop is notoriously on of the large fail items and very often unrepaired since it's too expensive, people just live with the problem sometimes having to prop open there computer screen with another object Price, especially when they go on sale, Dell only buys what they need from the manufactures and since they don't keep such large inventory then they keep the price down I will say that toshiba has the best warranty but you have to pay alot for it and there machines break down alot I think you will do well with a Dell Jon

Most of them are pretty well designed and built any more.
I go by, Warranty, price, what it comes with as far as software
and hardware. Been using this HP Pavilion now for over 3 years
with minimal problems, my neighbor has an IBM I work on for her
and that's over 6 years old now w/no serious mechanical problems although she's great at upsetting the OS...

What ever you decide I recommend that you be sure it includes the CD for complete set up and repairs and not something with a factory installed image as once the warranty is up so is help for that and you're stuck buying a new OS disk...

Happy Holidays :o)

it's all about what u want to use it for

pictures and photos - practicly any brand can handle this

music and videos - sony vaio and compaq presario

games - alienware

entertainment - sony, alienware, compaq, or hp

overall i would choose either alienware (if i had the money) or sony

there all good brands never buy an off brand like acer they may be cheap but the cain't handle what sony or the others can.

There are several sites that offer free reviews to give you this kind of help. PCWorld is a good source of general information. CNet is also known for quality reviews.

I went to best buy and talked to one of their sales people. They aren't pushy and usually they are students so they understand what you need for what you can afford. I went there and bought a Sony Vaio
