actually the earlier the better.the further along you get the harder it is for them to determine the age just by size alone because babys are all different.but in the beginning all babys are basically the same size.

They are more accurate when done early in the pregnancy. However, in my case I was told that I was 5 weeks 1 day pregnant on my first ultrasound. I couldn't remember the date of my last period but I knew from the start that date was not correct. I learned I was pregnant on my mother's birthday August 25th. I had my first ultrasound on Sep 24. The first two weeks of your 40 week pregnancy you are not yet pregnant. So that means that I would have found out I was pregnant before I even conceived, which would be impossible. Also I was told that my son was due may 10. He was born April 4th by emergency c section and they said he was 5 weeks early. But he weighed 7 lbs and 12 oz and his lungs were fully developed. And he was 23 inches long. Too big to be a whole 5 weeks early. I say maybe 2 at the most because everything about my son screamed full term baby. So as accurate as they are in the beginning, they are always exceptions. For the record my ob/gyn who conducted the ultrasound was an excellent doctor so it wasn't that she was incompetent.

You're a little confusing saying that you had ultrasounds at 6, 20, 24 and 34 weeks if you're also asking if it's possible that it's a 14 week old fetus. How would you have had all the ultrasounds AFTER 14 weeks already? That doesn't make sense. Aside from that and to answer your question. 4 weeks is a HUGE difference and at that early stage the fetus grows so rapidly that difference is just about impossible. I've been told by my OBGYN that an early U/S is closer to 2 days + or - 4 at the most. I happened to know with my current pregnancy the exact day I conceived and by the U/S measurements they told me the exact same day. By the time the baby is born you may be in court having to go through the paternity test but it's still a little early, don't let them tell you that you have to risk the pregnancy/baby/yourself and have it done by amniocentisis. It will be a relief for you to prove it's not his because it sounds like that's the last thing you want. He seems like an unhealthy person if he knows it's not his and wants to put you through that kind of stress. He's probably jealous of your significant other and can't handle his own issues about it. Thank goodness you're not with him anymore. Best wishes to you.

The earlier the ultrasound, the more accurate. It would not be off by more than a few days this early. It's later on, 20 weeks and over, when they can be off as much as 2 weeks.

They are very accurate on estimating a due date at that age. Whether or not your baby is born early or late is another story.... But the ultrasound date is a good date to go off of to find out the day you concieved!

u can just see a baby at around 7 weeks on an ultrasound. mine was a month off. i had my baby a month early. i didnt remember my last peroid so they did an ultrasound. when my baby was born the docs ran test and told me the baby was 4 weeks early. she was 5lbs and 3 oz. 17 inches long. i dont really think they are as accurate as docs say they are. same with finding out the sex of the baby. mine was right but my aunts was wrong. they told her that she was having a boy but the baby was a girl. the baby had her hands balled up between her legs and they thought her hands were boy parts. gl with everything.

it's unlikely that it's off by more than a week. I've had several early ultrasounds and they did seem to be off by 5 days or so after getting my regular 20 week scan. it's usually harder to get an accurate date that that point becaues of the size of the baby there isn't much to measure and see at that point so as they get bigger it's easier. but unlikely that's it's off by more than a week.

They are more accurate the earlier that they are done. The reason being is because all babies are differant sizes but they develope at the same rate. For example your baby will now have almost no tail. nubs for limbs, and will be getting a neck soon. So if your baby has a neck...or longer limbs..then they would date it as being further along. You can go to babycenter.com and track your baby week by week and see how it is developing.

I had one scan at 6 weeks and another at 12. Both times I was given December 20th as my due date. Obviously my daughter had selective hearing...she arrived on the 1st of Jaunuary! and she had to be induced ! lol
