I am supposed to direct a melodrama for my high school starting in Jan and I am new at this. Has anyone seen or heard about a good/funny one?

There is a funny contemporary mellowdrama called "The Mumberly Inheritance," and a past classic called "Pure As The Driven Snow," both of which are quite funny. These two are both in the 19th Century mode though made for a modern audience.

If you want a true melodrama (as opposed to "mellerdramer"), you might want to check out a play called "The Valiant" by Hallworthy Hall and Robert Middlemass. It's not funny, though occasionally humorous, and when done well with good actors there won't be a dry eye in the house.

Start by going to your local library (or Google) and researching 19th century theater, subcategory melodrama. Your librarian should be able to help you locate actual period plays and parodies thereof. Good luck!
