It is normal, and also normal to feel like you have a pulled muscle when there is no cause.
This is due to the uterus stretching and lower stomach muscles expanding.
I had the same problem during most of my 2ed trimester, by the end of the day I could barely walk, and felt like I had done 1,000 sit ups. I kept worrying about it, but my Dr kept reassuring me all was fine.
In 4 days in my 3ed trimester, and the pain of the above stopped weeks ago.
Unfortunately heating pads are a no-no on your belly.
Just like very hot baths.
Try taking a extra strength Tylenol and laying down as much as you can threw out the day on your left side.
Also when you cough, sneeze, etc, support your lower stomach helps a ton!

"Pulled Muscle" implies that for the duration of a few type of muscular exercise, you honestly produced a small tear in a certain muscle. The localized swelling that happens factors stress on nerve endings inside the muscle and results in the feeling of agony.
