I am thinking of getting myself transgendered. I have heard that vaginolplasty is a life saving and life enhancing miracle.

I have heard that Stanley Biber of Trinidad, Colorado, has been doing it longer than most. The Mt San Raphael hospital has seen more than 8,000 operations.

Has anyone had any experience with Dr Biber? Any other recommendations?

By the way, I have always been clear about my gender identity. I am a heterosexual male. I do not cross dress.

Its that I read the life expectancy statistics for the USA. Male: 75.02 years. Female: 80.82 years (2006 est.).

When I turn 75, rather than dying, I want to become a woman so that I can live for another five years.

Should I be worried about the emotional and psychological consequences of becoming an old woman? Will I want to rinse my hair purple, play bingo, keep too many cats and will my house smell faintly of urine?

Serious advice only please.

Do it yourself. All you need is an angle grinder. Don't forget the safety goggles, though.

By the time you're 75 the things that shorten men's life expectancy will have already happened to you. Men die younger due to many factors, including working at more dangerous jobs, and not taking care of themselves when younger (that's why married men live longer... the wife forces the husband to eat right and go to the doctor).

If you want to extend your life expectancy learn more about the behaviors and foods that will help you stay healthy. Trying to turn into a biological woman for the health benefits won't work, especially since not every biological male can handle taking the female hormones they prescribe to get your body ready for such things. That might actually shorten your life!

Also, before you waste your time hunting down the best surgeon in the states, you should know that no one will do the surgery on you because it is clear that you are a man who has always identified as a man, has always presented yourself to society as a man, etc etc. There are so many things that a transgender person has to do before anyone would be willing to do the surgery, such as living in society as the gender they feel they truly are for at least a year. That would mean you'd have to live in society presenting yourself as a woman, looking like a woman, etc etc. You'd also have to go to counseling for a looong time so that they can evaluate you emotionally. You wouldn't be able to pass either of these two requirements, even if you tried. People take okaying other people for the surgery very seriously.

And besides, many transgender people never even get any surgery. It's an expensive and drawn-out process that can take years. You can present yourself as a women to society but still have a penis.

LOL I'm getting thumbs downed for telling a guy who believes he's a man and already lives in the body of a man that he won't be able to have gender reassignment surgery? Wow. Or is it because I told him that a person could have a penis and still be a girl? I guess I'll have to back to my trans friends and colleagues and tell them that what they've experienced is all wrong. The people on Y!A told me so.

Actually i'm pretty sure that going from male to female will not increase your life expectancy. That number is mostly based on ones who were born as male or female originally. Not to mention there can be side effects from the hormones which can decrease life expectancy. ex: blood clotting, benign pituitary prolactinomas, liver disease, etc..

You also need to check on the way you live to figure that out. Ex: Food, exercise, daily habits, stress etc...

Is your only reason to get the operation for an extra 5 years that is not guaranteed? I hope not, there is much counseling involved which you should go through before making the big operation. You may do it and decide you made a mistake which is not easily fixable.

I would highly recommend you not get the surgery just for that reason. I would only suggest to get it if, in psycho & emotional psyches you felt that you are a woman. From what you explained, you don't sound like a true transgender. Please reconsider your choice for the operation.

I never cease to be amazed at your perspicaciousness and wisdom. I never in a thousand years would have hit upon your life extending plan.

My only question is, what is 75 years in Possum years?

There are no good surgeons for this process. If they were good they would find something else to do other than profit from the confusion and insecurity of emotionally damaged human beings
