You will naturally find people who you click with. Just smile and be yourself and don't let your nerves stop you from having a good time and showing people what you have to offer.

Over the summer I'd make it a point to try and meet a new person, your age, each week. Whether it's at the library, the community pool, or hanging with a neighbor kid and his/her friends.

A great way to meet quality people is to volunteer with a teen group or get involved with a Church group or organization.

When school starts, just be yourself. Every other kid may have been to public school, but you are all experiencing 9th grade at the same time, together. Smile a lot and say Hi when you meet someone eye-to-eye.

I'm betting the adjustment won't be as hard as your imagination is making it out to be!! These are the best years of your life. Enjoy them, don't waste them on worries that you invent....

First of all, don't think about it too much or you'll get more nervous :) It may sound cliche, but your best bet is to be yourself. When you first get there, look at your classmates and just imagine who you think you would get along with. Once you find someone you like, go ahead, don't be shy, and introduce yourself. If you're new, tell them that you are new at this school and just be friendly. A good converstion starter is complimenting someone on something. Don't get nervous, and good luck :)

Thanks a lot, im a nerd. I'm a freshmen too this year. It'll be fine, everyone is trying to meet new people when they are in highschool, since everyone doesn't know everybody else. Just be like "hey" And just talk about how annoying the teachers are, or something like that. Then you'll get to know them. Make sure you don't introduce yourself like "Hi my name is ____, whats your name?" Its kinda, lets say, creepy. GOOD LUCK, nerd hater. lols.

the same way all other new kids make friends... be yourself. When you sit at your desk you'll have your first chance to make friends... (at least 4.... one in front of you, one in the back, and two on the sides).... see how easy that is? they most likely don't know everyone around them. Now do that times 7 periods and you've made quite a few friends.... at that point it will just spread. Remember to be confident, but not an ***... always polite, but don't let anyone walk all over you.

i've gone to school all my life, but going to 9th grade i went to a new school that i didnt know anyone. it was kinda weird, but just whenever i got a chance to talk to someone i just said whatever was on my mind, and thats how u start conversation. just tell people this is ur first year in school, there is always someone that will talk to you to make u feel welcomed. even if u dont want to be friends with them, just talk so you can show other people around you how interesting you are. good luck

One of my best friends homeschoole dhimself has anxiety disorder as well so you can imagine how hard it si to conceive how to. I suggest to go to a place of interest you may have such as a cde place, a bookstore and ask whats new to some you may think has a kind face and one you can feel comfortable in approaching. You can tell this by listening to then how they are attitude the way they have their facial expressions all in body language which can make u kind of street smart. Go to gyms etc any place you have an interest to go to. also on yahoo there are groups and you can ask if any one is local as well in your town. there is also functions in town in the paper to go to as well so theres a lil bit of a start.

You're going to have to just bear with the fact that your parents are quite a bit different from the parents of some of the people you meet. That might be a relief to you though.

Don't worry about it too much.

Friends come and go no matter who you are, how old you are, and whatever else.

As a freshman now (2010!!) your friends will come to you. No matter if you play a sport or just participate in class, you'll meet people. Play your cards right and be yourself, you might be popular too.
