Woodpeckers do not eat wood. they peck at the wood in order to first find a tunnel in which a bug might be located. then they peck at the wood until they get inside where they will catch and eat the insect.

It doesn't. They poke holes in the wood so that they can get to the insects underneath the bark. The insects eat the wood and the woodpeckers eat the insects.

Woodpeckers eat a diet of insects, fruit, acorns and nuts.....they just peck at the wood.

I only saw woodpeckers twice. The first one i saw was a Red Headed Woodpecker. I think they are very interesting birdies :)

They do not eat wood. They will peck the dickens out of it though to get at the bugs.
