How can the greatest country in the world maintain that status if it is not competitive with its education? yet in this country, college costs are skyrocketing, public funding is decreasing, students required to pass a stupid test, and real learning is barely emphasized. My question is why dont we care more, and how can we justify taking money away from education, and never putting more in.

The education problems we have are completely because of the fact that it is government run. Ever see the John Stossel piece on education? See this and you will understand why government schools are a failure. Hint: private equals competition and results.

Formal education is generally useless. Most millionaires are not college grads. Why? Because communists dominate higher education and value things that are useless in the real world.

Note, it is not the government's job to fund education past high school. You want it, pay for it yourself.

I don't have the answers, but I agree with what you are saying.

I have to say though it is incredibly stupid to blame republicans alone for this. Both partys are to blame and neither have improved the education system or increased its funding enough to have any real effect. Perhaps congress should stop voting itself salary increases and put that money towards education. That would be a nice start.

Your right ! We have things backwards in this country. Or atleast Bush does. More millitary spending and less on social programs/education. I think education should be free or close to it. Too many kids are racking up $50,000 debts.

Repubilcans were elected... lower taxes are more important to more people than education... it's just that simple... then passing NCLB with no funding to the schools to implement it just took more money away to make the tests you mention...

I don't agree with it though...

Dems have said that one of their priorities will be to help with more grants and lower rates on loans (which have also gone up)... hopefully that will do something...

and it's REALLY HARD for the minority party to do anything, when you don't have the votes... civics 101
