it's not extremely rare like everyone else is saying on here, i am preg. with 3 child and have gotten pregnant every single time during my period. this time i especially know, my hubby and i only had sex on the last 2 days of my period for a 2 week period and that was when i conceived. i have miscarried twice and both times i got preg. during the end of my period. also, i otherwise have normal 28 days between periods and i have the normal 3-4 days periods. i have never had an irregular, short or long period. i guess i must be one of the "freaks" then since i actually do get preg. during my period, which everyone else on here seems to think is impossible.

I got pregnant while i was on my period. I was very nieve believing that you could not get pregnant while having your period cause i had heard that so much and to beat it all FROM A NURSE.
But i miscarried that pregnancy when i was 5 weeks along.

Question: Can you get pregnant during your period?
Answer: It's possible — but highly unlikely. You'd have to have a very short menstrual cycle, which is the time from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period, or a tendency to have long periods. This would bring the time of ovulation closer to the time when you would start bleeding.
Conception occurs when an egg and sperm meet in a fallopian tube. Sometime during the middle of your menstrual cycle, most likely between the 12th and 16th days, an egg reaches maturity in one of the two ovaries. The ovary releases the egg into the abdomen, where it's quickly sucked up by the tulip-shaped opening of the nearest fallopian tube.
An egg can survive in your fallopian tube for about 24 hours after it's released from the ovary. So the only way you can get pregnant is if sperm are present in your fallopian tube during this window of opportunity. If the egg isn't fertilized, it's shed along with your uterine lining during your period.
Typically, when you have your period, another egg is developing in preparation for release during the current cycle. But not every woman's cycle length is the same. Many women have a cycle that's about 28 days long, but some have cycles as short as 22 days long. If you have a shorter cycle, you could ovulate just a few days after you have your period. And considering that sperm can survive in your reproductive tract for up to three days, it's theoretically possible for the sperm to hang around until you ovulate again.
It's also possible to mistake breakthrough bleeding — spotting between your periods — for a regular period. So you may be bleeding right at the time of ovulation, when you're most fertile.
The time that it takes for an egg to develop, or mature, within the ovary can vary, and therefore, the actual day of ovulation can vary by several to many days. Some ovulation kits also base the "fertile time" on rising estrogen levels rather than the peak of luteinizing hormone, or LH, which is the actual trigger for egg release. In those situations the "fertile time" may seem to be longer

it's very rare... and usually only happens to people with very short cycles, because you release an egg about 14 days before you start your period so if your period last 7 days and you have a 20-21 day cycle, you could get pregnant, but it's so very rare because sperm can't make it thru the blood very well.

yes but it is extremely rare.. some women may release an egg during but its like one out of a million chances... also sperm can stay alive in a women's body for up to 72 hours. There are certain fluids in a women's body that attack and kill sperm like they would germs as well.. some make it some dont..

Thanks for your answers...and congrats! I have to say it is rare to find a woman who is married to their childrens father...especially 4 of them! For the people who did not already know the answers to these questions: you probably shouldn't be engaging in sexual relations. Sadly alot of the people asking these questions are either truly pregnant, or already have children. I still stand by the belief that I think there should be a test to pass before parenthood! You sound like a wonderful mother!

it's unusual but it is possible. you are more likely to get pregnant in the middle of your cycle, but you can conceive at any time of your cycle.

The chances are slim, but it has happened. Some women have overworking ovaries. Sometimes, one ovary will ovulate, while you are in your menses.
