I wonder if you will have difficulty answering this question?

To the answerer who was insulted by the question?:- no, my point is exactly the opposite as what you imply. My point is that most famous Americans are famous and respected for being ruthless, driven, hard, ungiving, solitary- all things that go against the grain of a being a kind person. I wonder if we are too one-sided?

I can think of a few: Bill Gates, Jimmy Carter, and a few of our famous authors. By modern-day I meant "still living". I would also play devil's advocate by pointing out that many in the US ridicule Jimmy Carter for "weakness".

There are many people in the US doing wonderful deeds for humanity, but you hardly ever hear about them. Why is it so unpopular here to be kind?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt e.g. their efforts to aide those in another country and their adoption of children.

Oprah Winfrey and all of her work for the Angel network and exposure of injustices in the world as well as her work in helping to apprehend perpetraters of children. Most recently those captured in the last year that were on America's most wanted lists.

Ms. Linda Gates...she has donated over $20 Billion to help others. Alicia Silverstone, helps PITA. Protects the poor animals. Angelina Jolie... she may be what she is, but she is all heart when it comes to helping children. Oprah... she is my top of the list.
