I hear it is a by product of U-238, so is it possible for a terrorist to make a nuke from it?

No. It's a myth that sprang up several years ago. Some high school kid was trying to do it but it just is not feasible. Be more concerned about some sicko with "dirty bomb".

No, one could not make a nuclear weapon from Americium 241, you need Enhanced plutonium to make a nuclear weapon.
