BLACK, the darkest of all colors, & is more of a "depressing color", very popular with goths, & other undergrounders .

Becca...I'm one of those rare girls that doesn't need pink. In all my clothes I own...1 pink tank top with gray and white stripes and 1 pink thong, both of which I wear on a once every two years basis. Everything else is either black, gray, red, blue, green or purple. A lot of dark colors.

I've actually never heard the term before. I remember a couple years ago (2002-3) when black with pink and especially pink polka dots was really in. My mom said of girls who would wear those two colors they looked like the Easter Bunny going to a funeral. Funniest thing I have ever heard her say and it was so true! So I would think that expression would have come from a girl that was trying to hard to look Punk or Goth and hope she'd look cool in the process.

What they mean is, as black was once a very popular color and worn all the time by everyone; now it is that way for pink, guys even wear pink button down shirts.
They are likeining the popularity of the color, not the similarity.

Black is fashionable for formal wear like suits, dresses, handbags, and shoes. NOT for t-shirts and stuff (that's only for the wierd emo/goth freaks). Pink is a very popular color for everyday wear, as well as formal wear.

Brown was the new black, orange was the new brown, and pink became the new orange. So pink became the new black by the process of "if a = b and b = c, then a = c.

Edit: Next year white will be the new black. What's going to happen then??? : )

By "black is the new pink," they are referring to black being a basic wardrobe staple, a neutral. Pink is the new neutral, staple. Every girl needs some pink!

Because pink is now accepted as a fashion basic. Everything goes with pink, just as everything goes with black. It's just that simple!
