Gimme a break! Don't they still teach in school that very woman is different??? That's not just a line that they stick into health class to make underdeveloped girls feel better. It's the truth!

That's the problem with questions of womanhood. Everyone's experience is too different for it to give your friend any idea of when to expect her period. Even averaging out the answers is not going to help your friend.

But for your information I had discharge for about a YEAR before I started my period. But then I had other friends who didn't have discharge before starting, and still other friends who got discharge after me but started their periods before me.

Your friend is just gonna have to sit back and wait (and you too, missy!). And if the real reason she's so anxious about this question because she doesn't want to start bleeding in the middle of class tell her about pantyliners. They're nice and thin and if she does start her period she'll have plenty of time to go to the bathroom before it becomes embarassing.

I am 27 and I was 9 when I began puberty. I had discharge for about 6 months before I started my period at 9. normally a clear thick ( snotty) like stuff. When I did start I didn't have any other signs like sore breast or cramps. I still don't have cramps but once in a very blue moon. The time frame is different for all females. This discharge is just the hormones leveling out. It can be clear or white or anywhere in between. This can cause a slight amount of discomfort because of the wetness or a slight odor. A panty liner is great for this to protect the underwear and to stay fresh feeling.

I hope this helps some. Need anything else IM me or email me.

Hey lady- You sound spoiled and impatient. Since I'm here anyway- I'm going to tell you the truth, not what you want to hear. Get it?

It's true, some girls DON'T get discharges before starting. Believe me, I'm almost 25 years old! I started my first period at age 13. I had no signs or symptoms before starting. Some girls, depending on their weight, will start sooner than 13 or later like 19. If she is having discharge- she could always call a GYN doctor- the advice over the phone is free.

lol I got my first period at the age of 12 turning 13 or was it 11 turning 12 I don't know. All I know is that I was a plain going to Canada and I was having some bad *** cramps. But the signs you usually get cramps a few days before, you sometimes spot, you sometimes have the urge for different types of food.I always need chocolate or cheesecake when I get my period thats how I know i'm getting it, because I normally don't eat chocolate/cheesecake. You usually have cramps, or your usually spot 2-3 days before your period.

I often get it about 2 weeks b4 and it lasts a couple days. It often happens around ovulation (I know this cuz I get cramps during that time too)cuz thats when ur most "fertile"...like your body is prepping for procreation. Also, women often feel the most "frisky" during this time. Strange but true!
I'm in mid 30's and its been this way long as I remember. I even used it as a method of natural birth control...during those few days I abstained or used protection. I asked my OB about it once and she said it is normal. But if it lasts a long time, changes consistency or smell get it checked it could be a yeast or bacterial infection.

wow you need to chilllllllll

whatever she wants to think about when she'll get her period, you cant predict when it will start for the first time so tell your 'friend' to relax.

everybody starts at a different time, as young as nine, as old as 16
