If Noah Webster were alive today, and he tried to carry on a conversation with the average person, he probably would be surprised at the number of new words that have made their way into our society.

Where these words come from is probably a combination of alterations of words that were already established, and those that just came out of the blue.

It is interesting how some of our words came into existance, particularly the words we use with the computer.

If you are wondering where the basic language came from, many of the words we have originated from Latin. Of course, other languages infiltrated into English as well. Some words were changed in their spelling and you would have to a little research to see the original spelling.

Very interesting question. But difficult to answer. Development of Languages also is part of evolution of mankind. Even now Languages develop according to the needs of the society. For instance words which were unheard of ten years back, are commonly used in present day English. We do not use many archaic words which were used centuries ago. That is applicable to all languages in the world.

Word etymology is lots of fun to look into. There are plenty of books on the subject. I even took a course in history of the English language just for grins.

Words are invented, borrowed, and corrupted.
For a quick tutorial in language read the prefaces of a collegiate dictionary and then read the language portion of the Silmarillion by Tolkien.

YES! I have thought that same thing. Cool question!! You just beat me to it (kidding). I also wonder why we have different languages. At some point, there had to have been just one language originally, right?
