first off i am a complete skeptic, but i had an experience that i cannot shake off as being coincidence, I was dozing off for a nap some yrs back, and heard my girlfriend at the time have a conversation w/a guy. i thought they were in the living room cuz it was so clear.I remember he was flirting w/her. I later repeated the conversation i heard to her.She was dumbfounded and asked if the guy had told me what they were talking about.I didn't know him, or where they were at, but i heard the conversation. This sounds crazy, I know, but how could i have knew word for word what they were saying, I am more of a scientific thinker than a believer, so this drives me freakin nuts!!!

Kudos on being a thinker over a believer. I think there are two things going on in your situation.

It's normal when you are still half asleep to hear semi-dream voices. Strictly they are hallucinations but they are considered within the normal realm of sane experience. I think on top of that it is probable that you had some subconscious reason for thinking this guy was interested in you girlfriend. That would make it pretty normal to have that be the subject of your dozing thoughts.

Second, it is incredibly likely that your girlfriend did not actually have the exact conversation you heard. I easily imagine that you told her about what you heard and that she really was amazed because it did happen. But I bet the things you told her only sounded exactly like what she remembered because she heard you get the gist of it right and she filled in the rest or forgot little things that were different. An alternative could also be that since it was you who were remembering it from a dream that your memory is not as exact as a real memory would be. She may have described some things back to you and those specifics worked their way into your "memory."

I think these two phenomena worked together to give you a pretty creepy coincidence. It's no wonder that when this happens to people who are less inclined to skeptical scrutiny (and it does), that they become convinced that they had a psychic experience. When it was just half remembered coincidence. The real draw here is that the experience is made up of your own personal thoughts. And it is very hard to not put more weight behind this kind of "evidence" even though thought is actually much more mutable over time and suggestion than normal evidence.

I hope that long boring discussion settled your mind some. But basically it's very common for this sort of thing to happen to people and for them to mistake it for more than a coincidence. Actually when this sort of thing happens (or nearly happens) to me, I tend to think it's really cool and kind of funny. That it's amazing the kinds of things your mind can play on you.
