Every baby is different. At 7 weeks old, my daughter could hold her neck up to an extent. If she were lying on her stomach, she could lift her head up at 3 weeks old. At 7 weeks, she was able to sit up and hold her head herself, but it'd wobble and sometimes it'd fall back so you should be sure to keep your hand back there just in case (they can also flop foward so be careful). I've seen other children that were at least 10 weeks old before they'd lift there heads so it really depends.

As for sitting, my daughter was 6 1/2 months old when she sat alone without falling...well, mostly. Sometimes, she'd get really excited and push and fall backwards, but she did good aside from that. But again, I've seen kids that were 5 months old and some that were 9 months before that sat alone. Now don't get confused (which I'm sure you're not), but sitting alone does not me sitting UP alone. That can take a while to get the coordination and muscle strength to actually pull themselves to the seated postion. I'm sure you've heard it a billion times, but whenever he gets older and ready to start sitting alone, if you have a Boppy, put it around him in the back so when he falls, he'll be supported. Now, my daughter had a habit of leaning forward too so I'd tuck a pillow (from the bed since it's longer and covers more room) over her lap so if she fell forward, she wouldn't knock her head. 99.9999999% of the time it won't do harm to them if they do, but you know...I wouldn't like hitting my head. :) You could also just use pillows around him.

My best advise is to just enjoy every little moment and every little thing he does now....don't rush it. By the way you wrote this question, you kinda sound like me. I always anticipated the "next step" for my daughter, but now...I wish I would've just enjoyed the steps as they came and not worried about the rest. I'm not saying I (or you) ignored them now or didn't cherish them, I just wish I could have cherished them MORE! That is one lesson I've learned and that's what I do now.

Best of luck with him! I bet you're having the most fun!!!

The neck of a baby will start getting stronger in the 3 month

All baby's are different. I would say at a couple months old he will be confident with his head. They sit up on their own around 6months and walk anywhere between 9-16 months. Don't be in such a hurry, the baby stage goes by like a flash.

Make sure to give your baby "tummy time" his neck will become stronger from lifting it to your voice, and sitting up can happen anywhere from 5 to 8 months every baby is different.

My baby could hold his head up at 1 week, but they are all different

4-7 months is average for sitting unsupported. However they can sit in your lap while and hold your hands for balance long before that.

Just gently and carefully give him opportunities to keep his head up.
