Because they give geeks like me a chance to become... a superhero?

So readers can relate to them more.

However if you think all the alter egos are geeky I can think of a few super heroes you likely aren't familiar with. For an example check out Ghost Rider, or the movie of it coming out in Feb starring Nicholas Cage. I don't know if it'll be any good, but I bet he's not a geek.

noone looks at geeks. everyone looks at super heroes. what better way to keep a low profile and live a normal life than not to be noticed.

lol, yeah, only geeks like superheroes! it probably sounded good at the time, y'know, when clark kent started it then peter parker followed and would you consider bruce wayne a geek? he's a recluse and a philanthropist....
