Terrorism in whole is a way to make your cause know for example the American Revolution. The United States used terrorism that we really don't here about; why you asked because the Government regulates History books and the people don't care..... Over all terrorism is the way a shy dog bites when corner the only way it can defend itself by biting. While this is so the war in Iraq is very diff rent because the Muslims are sooo sensitive, proud and agressive you remember what happened when the Pope telling them about being an aggressive religion; they were killing nuns left and right.

When you say terrorism, I believe you mean terrorism as we "know" it in the US.. because there are a lot of different views on what terrorism actually is. First off, terrorism will never come to an end. There will always be fundamentalists trying to prove their point- I guess you mean terrorism on the sense that we have been spoon fed.
I agree with Mohamed, there is no way to stop terrorism without changing the US foreign policy on the Israel & Palestine conflict. The US is biased toward Israel due to all the money they put into our economy, allowing Israel to commit countless human rights abuses on the Palestinian people which include torturing innocent Palestinian people including children. This has been reported by Amnesty International & Human Rights Watch, two very credible sources on human rights abuse. If I were a Muslim living in the middle east, I'd be pretty mad about that too.. especially when the majority of the world isn't taking notice, and is supporting the people who are commiting the abuses. It's sad how biased the media is in the US regarding this conflict, and how much is going unreported. If a Muslim country were commiting such violations, there would be much more of an uproar in the Western media/governments to have something done about it. It's really sad how stereotypical this country has become (though there are some people in it who are not), and unless we can eliminate the ignorance at home, there is no way "terrorism" can be stopped.

I saw a very interesting post here from someone who said he grew up in the Middle East. Yes, you are right, emotions play a larger part in life in the Middle East than in most cultures, i don't think we here in the USA understand this.
There have been many times when the USA and its little pet Israel (or is it the other way around, i'm not sure anymore) have resisted setting down a definition of terrorism because when you try to do that you will have to talk about the reasons some people would rather die or take the lives of innocent people with them and of course when you do this you get into politics and the lovely policies of a country like Israel.
Anyway, if terrorism can be considered to be the random targeting of civillians then most of what is going on in the Middle East is terrorism, whether from Muslim extremists or the government of Israel.
I will not delve into the political roots of terrorism, even though they are the main reason that religion is then twisted and used as a justification for violence.
When the political, social and econmic conditions are right, the violence and narrow mindedness of religion come to light. One only needs to look at medieval Europe to see how violent Christianity was.
Someone here mentioned Jews as the "chosen people", please spare me this. What? Are we supposed to lay down and let Jews do whatever they want then? Use your head.
Jews have been forced to be victims throughout their history, simply because they were outnumbered wheverer they were. When they took over somewhere and ruled, look at what they did. They are treating the Palestinians no better than they were treated in Europe or under the Russian Tsars.
Power is power and it will be abused, that is human nature.
As for ending terrorism, good luck. I do not see how it can be done without a true reformation within the Muslim world. I do see such a reformation happening, but the bloodshed and killing that will result from it will, for a while at least, be immense.
Muslims might like to think that they only kill people of other faiths, but when it comes to killing themselves, it is even worse. Just look at what is happening in Iraq on a daily basis. The century of death and religious murder that took place in Europe after the reformation will pale in comparison to what we will see in the Muslim world.
Islam is going through a very critical phase and terrorism is just one of the symptoms. All this will come to an end, i just don't know when.
Of course, US policy is not helping.

The clue is to identify who the terrorists are. Not every Arab is a terrorist, but every terrorist is an Arab.
Muslims are offended when they perform terrorist acts and then are branded as terrorists. The reason they are offended is that they underrate the average person's intelligence.
The reason for the conflict between Israel and the Arabs is that the Arabs, plain and simple, refuse to accept a Jewish state in their midst. They invented this whole idea of a "Palestinian people who deserve a state" just to use as a tool to dismember Israel.
Prior to partition, Palestinian Arabs did not view themselves as having a separate identity. When the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference, the following resolution was adopted:
"We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds.
"There is no such country as Palestine! 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria."
- Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, a local Arab leader, to the Peel Commission, 1937
As to how to solve the problem, the only way would be for Israel to have an overwhelming defeat of the Arabs and then dictate the terms for peace. Otherwise, the Arabs will never stop trying to destroy Israel.

Terrorism is a verb and a noun, you can't stop it. To limit international terrorism, you can quit terrorizing other nations and resolve disputes diplomatically. To limit domestic terrorism, governments have to have open access to free speech and resolve public questions and concerns without physical oppression. Only good leadership or force can limit terrorism, and force for only so long.

this is a very difficult question. However to those that promote using absolute force.
Lemme tell ya, as a guy who grew up in the middle east. I know the mentality there. Every time you arrest, kill or injure one of those fanatics whose worldview is so twisted that killing is the moral right, you will make martyr of him or her and ten more people, most probably from his/her family will gain enough emotional motivation to become a terrorist themselves. this is because in the east, a lot o emotional investment in one's life is with one's family, there is less induvidualism there.
In addition, its a mob mentality, when a few people start blaming US for their problems, a lot of people will follow, angry as they are with the state of their life as it is now- they need someone to blame- Attacking them with an iron fist will only make them worse- its like pouring water on a fire set by oil.
i think the best way forward now, is a balanced peace effort that gives them control. let them come to the same conclusion the western world has on their own.. Don't go make war and impose democracy on a people that may not be ready for it yet. Democracy isn't something that comes up overnight- look how long it took US to declare its own independance, from when the colonies were first formed?
plus they have religious rules that change their perspective to the point where certain elements of democracy might seem heretical. Just as they were for the western world a few hundred yrs ago. It may be that these values take time to take hold and grow in a society...
all i know with certainty is that with every war, people in the middle east become more and more polarized. like i said, its similar to pouring water on grease fire!

You'll never really stop it completely so long as there are those that believe they can change the world through vicious, unwarranted attacks. You can, however, make it unrewarding to attack your own country. It sounds savage but the least cost in lives is through overwhelming retaliation every time. Terrorists blow up a car and kill ten people, you counter attack and wipe clean a whole area. Very soon people get the idea and leave you alone. In the long term lives are saved.

Terrorism is not a country, or even a group. It is a technique used by desperate people, to gain attention, and elicit a response.
It is used only by desperate people because it can only work for you if your adversary is stupid enough to over react enough that people will think your actions justified.
If they treat it as a simple police matter, and do not over react, the Terrorist risks more sympathy going to his victim, than any benefit to himself, and his cause is discredited.
The more a country behaves with honor, the less sympathy folk will have for those who oppose it. If a country is seen to behave totally without honor, any assault upon it will be cheered

we cant there always has been and always will be people out there who are doing terrorism and they cant be stopped. as much as we dislike this behaviour you have to understand that they are being brought up to kill and they get rewarded for that. in some county's the families are paid 25,000 for there son or daughter who kill them self with suicidal bomb because they are doing something good and what there god wanted. what we have to do is stop fighting ourselves against it and killing more people because this is what is provoking more attacks us fighting the war we should have better ways of stopping it other then war itself

how you are able to sparkling up is to locate what makes them a terrorist... once you've noted, eliminate the foundation reason, terrorism will with out delay come down. there is continually a turn area and we purely ignore it. There ought to nicely be a lot of rationalization why youthful ones take in guns. they'd be justified of their own ideas. i imagine, there must be justice achieved to each and every thing, if each and every thing is achieved wisely and in a socially proper way (something that's ideal in line with structure) human beings ought to nicely be extra concentrated in the route of pursuing a corruption free existence.
