You can use your PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system to play music/audio saved to a Memory Stick Duo™. You can use one of two methods to save to your Memory Stick Duo™.

Save Directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP
Some music/audio can be saved directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ while it's in your PSP®. For more information, see Saving Directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP®.

Save to a Memory Stick Duo™ using a computer
First, import or download the music/audio onto your computer, then save them to your Memory Stick Duo™ to enjoy on your PSP®. See below or Saving to a Memory Stick Duo™ Using a Computer for more information.

To save music/audio to a Memory Stick Duo™ using a computer:
First import or download music/audio tracks from an audio CD or website:

Make sure your computer contains software that supports the file format you are using and that the files formats are supported by your PSP®. For details, see Compatible Music/Audio Formats.
Save the music/audio file from a CD or music/audio download website to your computer.

Then save the music/audio files to a Memory Stick Duo™:
Make sure there is enough available space for the files on your Memory Stick Duo™. If this is the first time you've used the Memory Stick Duo™, you must format it or use your computer to create the proper PSP ™ folder structure.

Connect your Memory Stick Duo™ to a computer using one of the following methods: Insert into the Memory Stick™ slot on the computer or use a Memory Stick Duo™ Adaptor. Connect a Memory Stick reader/writer with a USB cable. Connect your PSP®, with the Memory Stick Duo™ inserted, with a USB cable.

If you connected the Memory Stick Duo™ with a USB connection, you must activate the connection on the PSP®:
Select (USB) under (Settings) in the home menu. Press X . Your computer will indicate that it detects the Memory Stick Duo™/PSP®.

Note: The computer might recognize the Memory Stick Duo™ /PSP® as a "Removable Disk Drive" or "Removable Storage" or as "Memory Stick Media".

Browse to the Memory Stick Duo™/PSP® on your computer.
Copy the music/audio files from your computer into the MUSIC folder inside the PSP folder on your Memory Stick Duo™.

You can create subfolders inside the MUSIC folder to group tracks1. For more information, see Using Music Groups.
Note: Folders within subfolders are not recognized by the PSP® and can not be viewed on the PSP®2.

Notes:
Music/Audio Formats
Music/audio files must be in the correct format in order to be played on the PSP®. See Compatible Music/Audio Formats.
MP3 files containing expiration dates or a limited number of playbacks cannot be played on the PSP®.

If you encode an audio CD into MP3 format so that it can play on the PSP®, you should set the bit rate to 128k for a good balance of sound quality and file size. If you prefer better sound quality and have more available space on your Memory Stick Duo™, set the bit rate to 192k. Memory Stick PRO Duo™ cards will not play or record ATRAC3™ or ATRAC3plus™ files.

Memory Stick Duo™
Available Space
The amount of data you can save to your Memory Stick Duo™ will depend on the storage capacity of the Memory Stick Duo™ (they come in various sizes) and the amount of information already saved.

There must be enough available space for the files you wish to save on your Memory Stick Duo™. If you need more room on a Memory Stick Duo™, you might be able to delete data. For details, see Deleting Data from a Memory Stick Duo™.

Formatting
If this is the first time you've used the Memory Stick Duo™, you must format it for use with your PSP®. For instructions, see Formatting a Memory Stick Duo™.

Folder Structure
Files must be saved in specific folders using appropriate names to be viewed on the PSP®. If you have problems accessing content, see About Memory Stick Duo™ Folder Structure.

You can save and play music/audio on your PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system in the following file formats:
MP3
MP4
ATRAC3plus™
ATRAC3™
WAV
WMA
