Yes they are an important part of the ecosystem.... but first of all if you want to get a good mark in your class you should know that the plural of mouse, is "mice" not "mices". The mouse is regarded to be the second most successful mammalian species living on earth today, after the rat. Mice(common house mouse) are also the second most populous mammalian species on Earth. Since mice are so numerous and so prolific, they are an ideal food source for thousands of predators, and are an important primary consumer in the ecosystem. Plants get energy from the sun through photosynthesis, mice consume the energy from the plants they eat, and in turn hundreds of other predators get thier energy from eating the mice. So in terms of importance to the ecosystem, mice are very important and useful to all those who rely on them for survival. Mice are also useful (according to scientists) in scientific testing, particularly medical research and drug testing.
Mice that prefer to live amongst humans (like the common house mouse)can also be a health hazard or a pest.
Excerpt from Wikipedia... Mice can be harmful pests, damaging and eating crops and spreading diseases through their parasites and feces. The original motivation for the domestication of cats is thought to have been for their predation of mice and their relatives, the rats.

Here's two things that mice do in the environment - they are the major source of food for some species of owls and snakes, and mice spread seeds which help plants to become established in places they would not be if the mice didn't carry the seeds to those places.
