My fiancee wants tickets to the American Ballet Theatre in New York, but after looking at the list of performances this year, I'm clueless. I mean, I recognize some of the pieces, but I've not seen any of them. Is one better then the other? Which should I purchase tickets for?

I checked their calendar.
I would pick any of the following:
Romeo & Juliet
Swan Lake

I'm not a huge fan of:
Sleeping Beauty
Bayadere

That's just my personal opinion. Good luck!

Your fiancee is really smart, ABT is the best ballet school. I have seen all of thier repatoire, but I don't know your opinions.
I think Swan Lake is my favorite. If will keep you engaged, it has some wonderful variations, and the music is beautiful. Bayadare is my least favorite. It is slow paced, and only a few scenes are worth watching. The only other one worth mentioning is R & J. They do it pretty well, but I would just read the play, the ballet is to slow, and in my opinion Juliet takes to long to die.
I have actually danced with ABT in Le corsaire and Manon, but I don't know if they are doing Manon this year. If you do see Le corsaire, watch teh thrid act for the Jardain girls. :)

By the way, NYCB (which is also in Lincon Center) does the Nutcracker, if you want something traditional, but ABT does not, and I don't know how set you are on seeing them.
Enjoy!

I think NY ballet would be awesome, no matter what you pick. You didn't provide a link to the schedule, and I'm just as lazy and I didn't look it up. There are 2 options usually - full length performance and a performance consisting of several pieces. You might want to ask her. I usually prefer a full length performance and I prefer classic ballet. No, not the Nutcracker - I've seen it too many times. If she is into ballet she had probably seen it 20 times already.

Nutcracker is probable an a lot less annoying ballet for ballet "novices", with dozing attractiveness 2d to it. Swan Lake is honestly staggering musically, even with the undeniable fact that the tale is fairly harder to adhere to when you're not to any extent further acquainted with it. Nutcracker also has probable my universal piece of ballet music contained interior of it - the Pine woodland at nighttime section that's purely divine.

If they are performing Giselle, I would definately go for that one. ABT is well known for its beautiful performance of that ballet as well as Romeo and Juliet. ABT is coming to Los Angeles and to tell the truth I was really upset that they are neither performing Giselle or Romeo and Juliet and I am lost as to which to see with my fiance.

Nutcracker, it's the most interesting, Swan lake the music is good, but it's the same thing throughout the show.

Does it really matter though? If she's into ballet.. any ballet performance is good. I love ballet. I would want to see any ballet there.
