Ok, here's the deal. I went to get my 2nd ultra sound done today just to see if everything was okay with my baby. On Nov 17th I was told I was 8 weeks 5 days and that my due date was June 24th. Which would make me 12 weeks 2 days. When I went today they said that I was 13 weeks and 1 day. Since I don't have regular periods, I couldn't give them a LMP. I'm scared b/c if I go back to conception, I didn't have sex then. I'm confused. The lady told me the first one could be more accurate and baby's do grow at different rates, but why would they get 13 weeks? Is there something wrong with me? They are now saying my due date is June 19 or 20th. She measured twice. Is this a huge difference?? Please help.

First off.... a ultrasound is probably the most accurate tool for calculating the due date based on the measurements of the fetus and its development. THIS IS A SCIENCE AND NOT EXACT. They take a measurement of all the long bones in the body (e.i. femur, humerus, tib/fib, yadda yadda)

It is perfectly normal for there to be a variance in dates. Since you dont know the LMP or date of conception, this is just an estimate, as you get further along things will work its self out.

The date may change again! Just relax and go with it, easier said than done!

They are giving you a due date based on the size of your baby at this point. As she said babies grow at different rates. If you know when your last period was, count 14 days after your last day of period, that is usually the first day of ovulation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you, I promise. I wouldn't worry about a due date yet, your still a long way off. Give it a few months and then ask for another ultra sound. They will be able to give you a more concrete due date then.

that sounds normal to me. we're only talking about a week here. my due date changed 4 times before I got it pinpointed to May 21st and my son was born on the 24th. By my calculations it should have been May 17th. NONE of those are massive gaps of time though so "mid to late May" was accurate enough for me. Don't worry, the due date is just a guess, you could actually deliver anywhere from 2 weeks in either direction of the day they tell you at your appointments.

First, try reading up on ultrasounds...some studies show that more than 3 ultrasounds are not recommended because they may lead to brain damage. The results are still controversial but it was enough to make me choose not to have an ultrasound until after 17 weeks and only have 2 of them. Now, it's to your advantage to argue for the later due date because if your OB is convinced that you are due a week earlier, he/she is more likely to push you into taking pitocin which often leads to more intense contractions, which will make you more likely to get an epidural which may slow down birth. The use of an epidural increases your changes of a c-section. This pitocin/epidural cocktail is related to some instances of cerebral palsy because fetal distress occurs and the baby does not get enough oxygen during childbirth. As for the difference in dates - ignore them, it sounds like you know the day you conceived, just add 266 days to that date.

With my first baby my due dates changed twice, and 10 days later than they had thought. Also with that same pregnancy , my preg test did not show positive for 10 days after it should have. I would not worry about a week's difference since you are not sure of your LMP. my periods were also irregular at that time.

changing a due date by even a week is nothing to worry about. Babies do grow at different rates and they'll keep measuring as you go along anyhow. If you have irregular cycles the ultrasound is still the most accurate way to date your pregnancy.

ultrasounds are not 100% accurate i was told i concieved on april 30 which was impossible because i didnt have sex it was the night of my bachelorette party i really concieved on may 1 but my first due date was a few days difference than the second one i wouldnt worry the doctor won't change your due date unless its over a weeks difference

Its easier to date a pregnancy BEFORE the 12 weeks are up. Even then thats pushing it. I would definitly go by the first date.

Because like she mentioned come second trimester they grow at such rapid rates. AND depending on your eating they may be getting extra calories. I would just watch out for a larger baby though

well since its only a week off i wouldnt worry.. since you dont know the date of your lmp it may take a few times to get an exact age... changing the due date by a week is not at all uncommon.. dont worry baby is fine

The # of weeks you are pregnant does NOT count back to the day you had sex. They count from the the first day of what would be your last period. The conception normally doesn't happen until 2 weeks after that day. Relax, your okay.
