Just to add...

Your brakes will take the full load of your car if you don't engage your engine. And if your brakes fail, you may not have time to put your car into gear before you hit something. Coasting in neutral is never a good idea.

no harm to transmission, small increase in mpg because the engine will idle while the vehicle is speeding downhill. This is almost "free-wheeling." The somewhat legal problem might be that you have disengaged the engine and thus no engine braking exists. The car will coast until it stops rolling or is stopped by the brake or a tree.

At the end of the "free ride," the transmission should be re-engaged to slow down. This could be in high gear to continue or at a lower gear to slow the vehicle.

To avoid possible transmission damage "rev" the engine when putting the car in gear or downshifting. This can be done to slow down the car instead of applying the brakes.

No it won't, but why would you? Contrary to popular belief, it hurts, not helps mileage. When your coasting in gear the injectors stop pushing fuel into the cylinders. When your in neutral the engine has to go back to idle so the injectors fire up again.

no not at all. neutral is just disenguaging the transmission. it's kind of illegal though, but it can be useful on the gas milege if it's a long enough hill.

No, if the hill is long enough, it may save a little fuel, but even idling takes fuel, and if you shut the engine off, you lose power steering & brakes.
As little fuel as it would save, why bother.

no, but if you try to put it back in gear, they might no sinc, especially the lower ones, if you do manage to get it in a lower gear, and your moving pretty fast, and you let out the clutch, you can overrev the motor, possibly causing it damage, not to mention your face, when it slams into the dash!
