I live in a very bad neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, and a couple of my friends carry tasers when they go outside. Is it against the law to carry a small taser for defensive purposes?

It is against the law for private citizens. Check here: http://www.taser101.com/statestatutesummary_page2.html
It gives the taser and stun gun laws for all the states.

Are your friends police officers? I'm going with no on that, so the answer to your question is no, it is not legal to carry a taser.

Well, it is in some states, but in NY that is a no-no unless you have a badge.

If you enjoy your taser, head south, or north. I think they are fine in New Hampshire. Get into bible belt territory and its also a fairly good chance you can legally carry a taser there too.

I remember researching this before because I was interested, but this site shows the legality in some states (NY included as prohibited)
