I suggest bearshare. The one problem with bearshare is that it takes up alot of space on your computer and is a very big program to run. I have had problems connecting to the internet and problems with my phone because of bearshare. The good thing about bearshare is that it is very easy to un instal and there is no hastel about the company trying to get you to keep the program by forceing it on you. A good alternative is (if you dont want to download anything) to go on myspace.com and search the music part of their site for the artist who you are looking for. The down side to this is that sometimes the artist either doesn't have a myspace or the song you are loking for wasn't on their profile. If your problem is the later then you could try sending them a myspace message asking them to put up the song you are looking for. Sometimes you can even download the songs to your media player. If you can't download the song then you could download a program called sound capture which lets you record any music or sound on your computer.

You'll have to look around online if you don't want to use any peer to peer programs.
A lot of blogs offer free MP3 downloads of artists that they review, but most of these blogs have indie and alternative music.

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.
