NO NO NO NO, STAY AWAY FROM STEAM CLEANING!!!!!! The Dirt will just resurface in 2 months, steam cleaning only removes 10% of the dirt it comes in contact with. you are going to want to go with a good vacuum, that will get the dirt out, then a dry foam cleaning system. since most carpet dinge is on the surface there is no need to send hot steaming water down in your carpet melting your glue, soaking the pad, and the carpet, making mold spores down below. a dry foam system scrubs the surface, picking the staining dirt up, while using minimal moisture. 1 quart of water w/ solution will clean a 25 by 25 square foot area, and the solution is not expensive, since it is so consintrated. the best system i have found for this is Kirby. now, i know what you are thinking, "OH MAN, those things are so expensive" TRUE, if you go brand new from a dealer, but you can get new ones on Ebay, and refurbished ones for under 100 sometimes. I don't work for kirby, i have just worked with vacuums for years, so i know all about every type, and thats what i use in my home, and i shampoo my carpets once a month. if you ant your carpets to look as good as the day you bought them, go with a kirby system, OR rent a rug doctor twice, and pay as much as you would have to buy a refurbished kirby, and have nothing to show, but the same stains.

A company that operates a "Truck Mounted Steam System" is by far the best cleaning system. These are powerful, real steam cleaning machines not portable hot water extractors that are referred to as steam cleaners.

I use a Rug Doctor from the grocery, and a very cheap product called Mean Green available at Wal-Marts and other discount stores everywhere....instead of the product recommended for the machine
I promise you will be amazed! I had a light berber in my sunroom and did it twice a year (very heavy traffic)
Enjoy!

I hate to say it, but you probably need a professional cleaner in. Normal cleaners that you and I can buy don't do the trick! I had a pro in recently, can't compare!
